Psytech SA's research support to users

Psytech International's tests and questionnaires are based on extensive research and development. Attention to reliability, validity and fairness was given from the design stage.

In South Africa, we have gone to great lengths to build up the research base for the Psytech tests, and we are keen to continue in this tradition by assisting our clients in performing fairness and validation studies wherever necessary.

Local norms

Psytech's testing and reporting software, GeneSys, makes it easy for users to calculate their own norms from data that they have collected on the system. To do this sensibly, it is very important that all the biographical information, such as language and education, should be captured on the system, which has the facility to store the data. Psytech SA can assist users in calculating norms and in cleaning up their data if this should be necessary.

Users can also create norms from published studies or from basic statistics that they calculated themselves, by entering the means and standard deviations into GeneSys, which converts it into a norm table.

On the pages referring to every individual instrument, a list of South African norm groups for that instrument may be downloaded.

Reliability, validity and fairness studies

Many of the South African studies are posted on this web site. On the pages referring to every individual instrument, selected reliability and validity studies for that instrument may be downloaded.  If you have a need for information on a test and you do not find any research results here, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

Where there is a need for validation research, Psytech SA will assist as follows:

  •      We will advise on the data to be collected and the best method of collecting and capturing the data.

  •      Provided we receive the data on GeneSys administration  disks and the sample size is large enough to yield meaningful information on the instruments concerned, we will score the tests free of charge and do the necessary statistical calculations. Clients can also provide the data in computer files as exported by the GeneSys system, or captured in a spreadsheet form.

  •      For other methods of data capture and small samples, a data capture fee will be negotiated based on format and volume.

  •      We will provide the client organisation with a summary of the results and one technical report. This report will give feedback on the group that was tested and the relationships between the variables studied, not on individuals. The technical report will be free of charge provided that the sample  size is sufficiently large. For small sample studies a consulting fee will be levied.

  •       If reports on idividuals are desired and the client is a GeneSys user, normal GeneSys credit charges will apply.

  •      If the client is not a GeneSys user, bureau scoring charges will apply for the provision of individual reports.

  •      Where the client wants interim reports before all the data is collected, or wants to supplement data at a later stage and wants to re-calculate and revise the results, a consultancy charge will be levied.

  •      Where the client wants to restrict access to research results in any way that prevents Psytech SA from communicating results normally to other users and prospective clients, the project will be treated as a normal consulting project and the time spent on it will become billable.

  •      Test results on individuals will always be treated confidentially by Psytech SA.

Please note: Travel costs and other disbursements directly related to research projects will be for the client's account.

GeneSys Integrated Assessment Software

With GeneSys version 3 you can:

  • Administer and score the full range of Psytech tests on a personal computer. Administration is done on-screen, and scoring is done by entering the responses for tests that were completed using pencil and paper.
  • Generate a range of high quality narrative reports on the test results, using a wide range of comparison groups, including many South African norm groups. Examples of these reports can be downloaded off the Psytech International web site.
  • Test several persons at once using the remote administrator module (included with GeneSys 3) on a network or several stand-alone computers. This program generates a response file which is imported into GeneSys for scoring.
  • Make use of our internet-based testing facility (available to GeneSys users) for remote testing in situations where the remote administrator module can not be installed.
  • Create customised batteries of tests, by combining any subtests from the standard test batteries. Use these customised batteries on your remote administator module.
  • Create customised reports to go with your customised batteries.
  • Create in-house norms on the data you have collected on the system, thus ensuring that you are using the most appropriate and fair basis for comparison.
  • Match respondents to ideal profiles.
  • Export data to standard spreadsheet format for further statistical analysis, presentation graphics or validation studies.
  • Make use of the downloads sections on the Psytech SA and Psytech International web sites to keep your system up to date with the latest versions of the questionnaires and norm files.

Using GeneSys 3 is economical

  • All the Psytech tests are included.
  • Dongle credits are deducted only when the test is scored. There is no additional charge for reports. You can generate several different reports at no extra charge.
  • The facility to test on several computers at once is included.
  • Scoring credits are sold on a sliding scale, and significant savings can be achieved by buying credits in bulk.
  • For large-volume testers, annual unlimited-use contracts are available that enable the user to fix the cost of scoring tests for a year. This can help you cope with unexpected large assessment projects under fixed budget conditions.

Online assessments

Psytech tests and questionnaires can now be administered online in situations where users do not have access to pre-installed testing software. This facility can be made available to all GeneSys users at no additional cost. There is also the facility to capture pencil and paper responses online.

Please note that Psytech SA does not condone the unsupervised administration of any Psychological test. Users have to take full professional responsibility for the way they use the online facility.
