Overview

A Cornerstone of Digital Productivity

Despite technological advances, typing remains a core communication and documentation skill across industries. The Typing assessment measures both the speed and accuracy of a candidate's typing through a focused timed transcription exercise.

The dual-pane interface removes formatting complexity and focuses purely on the candidate's ability to reproduce text quickly and correctly — capturing detailed typing metrics that reveal attention to detail, fast reflexes and minimal error rates.

Results include both a raw WPM and an adjusted WPM — the latter penalising errors to produce a more meaningful measure of real-world typing proficiency.

Podium

What It Measures

Raw Typing Speed

Reported as Words per Minute (WPM) without error adjustment — a baseline indication of how fast the candidate types.

Accuracy

Errors are identified by comparing the transcribed text to the source, with a detailed breakdown of mistakes made.

Adjusted Words per Minute

A composite score that combines speed and accuracy — penalising errors to give a more meaningful overall measure of typing proficiency.

Typing Metrics

Detailed Performance Insight

Five metrics combine to give a complete picture of typing capability — not just raw pace.

Words Per Minute (WPM)

Captures gross typing speed before accuracy adjustments — the headline pace metric.

Accuracy Rate

The percentage of words typed correctly — insight into focus and attention to detail.

Error Count

Tracks the total number of typing mistakes across the assessment.

Adjusted WPM

Reflects real-world performance by factoring speed and accuracy together.

Progress Through Paragraph

Indicates how far the candidate advanced — a quick benchmark of sustained performance.

Organisational Advantages

Smarter Hiring and Team Development

Improve Quality Control

Hire individuals who naturally produce accurate written content — fewer downstream corrections.

Boost Documentation Efficiency

Identify fast, competent typists for admin-heavy, documentation-focused roles.

Reduce Onboarding Time

Select candidates with baseline typing proficiency so they can contribute from day one.

Support Remote Readiness

Ensure typing fluency in remote-first or hybrid teams where written comms carry more load.

Enhance Service Delivery

Speed up text-based communication with customers and colleagues — without sacrificing accuracy.

Team Efficiency

Reduce written communication errors and lift throughput across documentation-heavy roles.

Applications

When to Use Typing

Typing-Reliant Roles

Selection or development for roles where typing speed and accuracy are operationally relevant — including administrative, secretarial, data entry, customer service, legal and transcription roles.

Balancing Speed & Accuracy

The dual metric output (raw WPM and adjusted WPM) makes it useful for roles where different thresholds of speed or accuracy are prioritised.
