Understanding What Drives People

The Values and Motives Inventory (VMI) profiles the motivating forces that shape how a person approaches their work — not what they are capable of doing, but what conditions allow them to do it with energy, engagement, and satisfaction. By identifying the values that matter most to an individual and those that matter least, the VMI helps explain patterns of motivation and dissatisfaction that personality assessments alone do not fully capture.

It is a focused, reliable measure of occupationally relevant values, organised across three categories: interpersonal values that govern how a person relates to others, extrinsic values that shape their relationship with work and its rewards, and intrinsic values that reflect their deeper personal beliefs and principles.

Psytech International

What It Measures

The VMI assesses eleven occupationally relevant values, grouped under three categories:

Interpersonal Values

Values that shape how the individual relates to and engages with others

Extrinsic Values

Values that shape the individual's relationship with work itself and its tangible outcomes

Intrinsic Values

Values rooted in the individual's personal beliefs and principles
